SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Wendy Long says democrat Kirsten Gillibrand may have a big lead in fundraising, but still doesn't have enough money to sell the public on her voting record.

Long made a trek across Upstate New York. It was her first major campaign swing since winning a three way Republican primary for Senate in June.

In Syracuse, Long dismissed reports of a major lead for Gillibrand in various surveys, claiming that lead will quickly disappear.

“Her popularity is less than that of some other statewide, elected officials. So it's not all that strong. To the extent that she has any strength at all, I think it's based upon the fact that the voters don't really know her record. And what I aim to do for the next four months is to acquaint them with that record,” Long said.
