MARCELLUS, N.Y. -- Firefighters battled the heat as they worked to extinguish flames at a home in Marcellus Monday evening.
Crews arrived on Highland Drive to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the structure. They say one man was home at the time, but he got out safely.
The big concern was keeping firefighters hydrated, but the Marcellus Fire Chief says they had plenty of manpower to help with that.
"The humidity's taking a toll on the firefighters, so what we're having to do is cycle additional companies in to supplement the crews here. We have a rehab set up, getting fluids in them, checking out their vitals and then putting them back to work if need be," Marcellus Fire Chief John Rossiter said.
The Onondaga County Fire Investigation Team was brought in to investigate the cause.
