SACKETS HARBOR, N.Y. -- It's the biggest event in Sackets Harbor every year, the 41st annual Can-Am Festival, and it kicks off on Friday night. Food, craft, and antique vendors began setting up for the event on Friday afternoon.
Can-Am draws thousands of people to Sackets Harbor. It is designed to provide some historic education, as well as fun games and events for the kids. Organizers said it is a great way to show off the North Country's relationship with Canada.
"It's kind of a celebration of the War of 1812, and our relationship with Canada and the War of 1812. We try to promote friendship between the two nations and hopefully that's what will come out of it," said Sherry Derouin, Can-Am Festival Chairperson.
Some of the weekend's events include a parade, an old-time baseball games, and a soap box derby.
