AURORA, CO -- Officials remain at the apartment of James Holmes, the man accused of shooting more than 70 people inside a Colorado movie theater, killing 12 of them. A bomb squad detonated some of the explosives inside the apartment in a controlled explosion on Saturday.

Investigators said people who were evacuated from their apartments in the building where Holmes lived, should be allowed back in by the end of the weekend. They were evacuated when police found explosive booby traps inside the apartment, after arresting Holmes.

The Aurora Police Chief said it appears that all major threats have been eliminated.

"Make no mistake. This apartment was designed, I say, based on everything I've seen, to kill whoever entered it. Okay. And who was most likely to enter that location after he planned and executed this horrific crime? It was going to be a police officer," said Dan Oates, Aurora Police Chief. "Okay, so make no mistake about it, what was going on in there. And if you think we're angry, we sure as hell are angry, about what has happened to our city, what has happened to these wonderful people who live here, and also what he threatened to do to one of our police officers."

Officials said Holmes bought thousands of rounds of ammunition in recent months, all of it legally, and said it's clear that Holmes spent a lot of time planning the attack. They have not released any information regarding a motive in the shooting.
