SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse firefighters battled their third fire in two days. They say no one was home at the time a fire started at a house on Carbon Street on Sunday.
It was originally called in as a burglary, but crews arrived to find flames on the first floor.
The cause remains under investigation, but officials say no one was hurt. They did take extra precautions given the conditions and recent workload.
"With the heat and humidity today we brought in an extra engine company so that as the first crews were coming out after depleting the air in their tanks we had other firefighters that were ready to go right back in and continue fighting the fire," said Bill Elderbroom, Syracuse Deputy Fire Chief.
This was the second fire on Carbon Street in less than 24 hours. The other happened Saturday night about five blocks away. No one was home when that fire started either. The cause in that case is also under investigation.
