ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Two men have been charged with arson for a garage fire earlier this month at the Norstar Apartments in Liverpool.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s office says Christopher Deverso and Robert Swartz, both 40, intentionally set fire to and destroyed a garage in the complex.
Investigators say the fire started in a double unit where Deverso kept two 1967 Chevy Camaros. They say he and Swartz set the unit on fire so Deverso could collect insurance on the cars, totaling almost $80,000.
Investigators also found that Swartz had been admitted to Upstate University Hospital for burns covering nearly 40 percent of his body the day of the fire.
Deverso has been charged with arson, conspiracy and insurance fraud. Swartz has been charged with arson and conspiracy. Both have been sent to jail on $100,000 bail.
