TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Residents in Tioga Center, Smithville, and Barton in Tioga County are also cleaning up after Thursday’s storm. With many trees down and power out in many areas, residents are out clearing trees and assessing the damage.
While the New York State has yet to confirm it, people living there say they saw a tornado bouncing up and down across the hills.
"Through the valley behind my neighbor, Bailey’s, house you could see it coming right straight up the valley and I told my wife and kids to get in the basement and when it came up the valley it turned and hopped right across the Brennan house and across Halsom Valley Road," said Duane Welfel, Barton resident.
Neighbors say they're glad the damage was not as bad as it could have been and are happy at how the community is coming together.
