LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- Family and friends of a Central New York woman who died in Florida in 2009 are hoping to force authorities there to reopen the investigation into her death. The group called Justice 4 Sheena held a petition drive in Onondaga Lake Park on Sunday. Sheena Morris was found hanging in her hotel bathroom in Florida on New Years Day in 2009.
Investigators ruled her death as a suicide, but following a second autopsy funded by her family, the cause of her death was changed to undetermined.
"We would like to see Sheena's case get reopened by possibly the FDLE in Florida, possibly the FBI, to come in and open Sheen's case and do a real investigation into Sheena's death. It's never been done by a police department in Florida," said David Morris, Sheena's father.
An event was also held in Florida on Sunday morning. Organizers are hoping to collect 10,000 signatures by August 1, Sheena's birthday.
