BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Broome County business owner announced his candidacy for the county legislature on Monday.

Anousheh Salimi will be running as a republican and conservative candidate for District 15, which covers Binghamton's south side and part of the west side. He'll be up against incumbent John Hutchings.

Salimi says being a small business owner allowed him to have one-on-one conversations with people and he was motivated to run by the hardships of small business owners.

"I have been in business for close to 30 years in this area and we gone through a lot of ups and downs with the community in the is area economically. The downsizing of the big business and everyone of these have affect every small business, including mine," Salimi said.

Salimi says his goals are to restore trust in and create a healthier county government.
