CAYUGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A former Auburn police officer got several more years in prison for embezzling money from a Police Benevolent Association. Brian Hutchings was serving as treasurer at the time.

The judge sentenced him to two and a third to seven years in prison Tuesday morning. That sentence will run consecutively after the current one to three years he is already serving. That puts Hutchings in prison for up to ten years. He must also pay $61,000 in restitution.

"As police officers, we're deemed and trusted with the public safety and held to a higher standard. This defendant has let down the public. He's let down his comrades. He's dishonored the police officers and brought shame to the department. Hopefully, nobody associates any of the other officers. This was an isolated individual acting alone and it shouldn't reflect on the fine men and women that protect our community," said Jon Budelmann, Cayuga County District Attorney.

The judge also ordered an order of protection against Hutchings for some of the victims in the case. Hutchings declined to say anything on his behalf in court.
