JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- Friends, family and even those who didn't know him said goodbye to a Fort Drum soldier.
Sergeant Daniel Rodriguez was honored with a procession from his funeral services in Carthage to the Brookside Cemetery in Watertown.
Rodriguez, a member of Fort Drum's 10th Sustainment Brigade, was killed earlier this month in Afghanistan when the vehicle he was in hit a roadside bomb.
The procession was led by the Patriot Guard Riders, most of whom had never even met Rodriguez. Members say that doesn't matter and it's all about honoring those who gave their lives to protect everyone else.
"They mean everything. To give that ultimate sacrifice in support of the country is what you join the service for," said Patriot Guard Riders Ride Captain Gregory Pluhar.
Rodriguez, from Baltimore, is survived by his wife and three children.
