SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Hancock International Airport is getting nearly $4 million for upgrades that New York's U.S. Senators say is vital for safe winter travel.
Senators Schumer and Gillibrand announced the DOT funding Tuesday.
A total of $3.9 million has been secured for upgrades to three de-icing pads and a snow melt pad. The pads were built in 1996, so they've been through a few Central New York winters.
Hancock officials say the upgrades will help maintain the structural integrity of the runway pavement and ensure the safety of passengers. It will also help keep flights coming in and out of the airport during snow storms and bad winter days.
