SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner officially signed off on a law banning the synthetic drugs known as bath salts.
The law was passed earlier this week by the common council and it makes the sale and possession of the substances a misdemeanor by up to a year in prison and includes a thousand dollar fine.
Mayor Miner called the ban an important first step in taking synthetic drugs off the streets.
