AUBURN, N.Y. -- The Secretary of State for New York was in Auburn Friday with city Mayor Michael Quill and other county and state officials.

It was the official kick-off of the brownfield redevelopment for the areas of downtown and the Owsco River Corridor.

The city received nearly $400,000 from the state as part of the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. Officials say the money will be used to develop a market-driven, economically feasible plan for riverfront and downtown redevelopment.

The Secretary of State was in town to see for himself what the money is going toward.

The brownfield area in question is 562 acres in size.
