Child tests positive for West Nile
OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- An Oswego County child has tested positive for the West Nile virus.
County officials say the child lives in the City of Oswego and is recovering at home.
Just last month, officials found evidence of the virus in New Haven. It was also found in Central Square and in many pools across Onondaga County.
As always, heath officials urge residents to take precautions when heading outdoors. They say it is important to use insect repellent, limit outdoor activities between dusk and dawn and wear long shirts and pants.
To minimize the mosquito population in your area, get rid of outdoor standing water, repair or replace door and window screens and change water in bird baths and horse troughs twice a week.
