ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The family of Liverpool native Sheena Morris who died in 2009 is speaking out after a series of newspaper articles in Florida say an outside review of the initial death investigation will be conducted.

Morris, 22, was found hanging in the shower of a Florida hotel room January 1st, 2009. The ruling was suicide.

But the family says forensics experts believe the bathroom may have been staged to cover up what really happened. For years, they've been asking for the case to be reopened. But the Florida Department of Law Enforcement or FDLE and the Bradenton Beach Police Department refused.

Now, just days after a Florida paper released a sketch of the crime scene, that same paper is now reporting that the FDLE will review the Bradenton Beach Police Department's handling the case.

"It's kind of weight lifted off of our shoulders. But at the same time, it is frustrating because we don't know if it will get done the way we wanted to," said Kasey Helm, Sheena's friend.

David Morris, Sheena's father, added, "What we're mainly after now is we need the investigation opened up so we can actually find out who killed Sheena."

If the FDLE finds discrepancies or overlooked items, they can make the police department redo parts of the investigation or turn the information over to the FBI, which is what family and friends want.

"Chief Speciale made a statement that he's doing what the people want. He's not doing what the people want. What we want is for the FBI to take over the case. I think he's trying to quiet us down by allowing the FDLE to come in. But they're not actually doing an investigation. They're just doing a review of what the Bradenton Beach Police Department has. And it's not very much information," said Justina Jones, Sheena's friend.
