What’s in a name?

Now that Carousel Center has officially been renamed Destiny USA, it's questionable if people can get used to calling it by its new name. The name officially changed this week and there's more changes to come. Plans to add about 100 venues including stores, restaurants and entertainment sites are set for the mall. Our Brad Vivacqua recently spoke to some shoppers and got their take on the new name.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Earlier this week, Carousel Center officially became Destiny USA as work continues on 100 sites including stores, restaurants and other venues. But, the new name may take some getting used to.

"It will take some time because people are familiar with Carousel. So it's going to stick for a while before people get used to Destiny USA," Pushkar Varde.

And he's not alone. So how does the mall's new name stick with you?

"I'll probably still call it Carousel. I mean it's been Carousel since I was little," said Amanda Stever.

Mary Draper said, “I'll still call it Carousel. I'll still say, ‘you want to go to Carousel with me?’ I won't call it the other. No."

Others may call it both.

"The addition will be Destiny. But the old part will always be Carousel. But it will be like Oh I'm in the Carousel part, oh I'm in the Destiny part. I don't think the whole thing will ever be Destiny," Chevaun Jackson said.

Others say they'll just call it the mall. And others may actually refer to it as its real name.

"It's certainly not the first time we've heard Destiny. We've been hearing it's going to be Destiny, Destiny, so now it's finally Destiny, I don't think it's going to be a problem, it's a great name," Judy Gibson said.

"One thing that won't be going out with the Carousel Center name is the of course the Carousel, which remains very popular in the original section of the mall today.

"I think it's great. I think it's very historical. I think it looks great. I think it's very nice for the community. And all the kids love it," Terry Jerman said

So no matter what you call Destiny USA, you'll find plenty of new amenities with a little touch of the history that it's always been known for.

Several new stores and a few restaurants have opened in the expansion area of Destiny. Once complete, Destiny USA will include more than 260 tenants including restaurants, stores and entertainment venues.
