LONDON, U.K. -- Local distance runner Lopez Lomong has qualified for the finals in the Olympic 5000 meter event. Lomong finished fourth in the first heat of the qualifying round Wednesday morning in London. The top five automatically qualified for Saturday afternoon's final.

Lomong moved to Tully and was adopted by a family there after fleeing his home in Sudan. The Tully community has rallied to support Lomong since he left for London and has been busy selling t-shirts to help his foundation. It's called '4 South Sudan,' and raises money to provide water, healthcare, education, and nutrition for the people of South Sudan.
