OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man has died after a swimming accident in Lake Ontario.

Police say they responded to a person in distress in the area of the former Sheldon Beach around 8 p.m. Thursday, behind the City of Oswego Water Treatment Plant near SUNY Oswego.

According to police, Victor Woolson, 19, was found floating in the water about 20 yards from shore. He was rescued by fire crews and taken to Oswego Hospital where he died Friday.

The investigation is ongoing.
