Broome County prison guard admits to civil rights violations
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A former Tioga County Corrections Officer pleads guilty to federal charges. On Friday, David Monell plead guilty to civil rights violations at a federal courthouse in Binghamton, admitting that he deprived inmate David Coffey of his civil rights.
Back in June 2010, a video camera caught Monell assaulting Coffey who was cuffed to a bench. If convicted, Monell faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for December 18.
