ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- If you're driving through Liverpool, the prehistoric family on the lawn of the library is not a figment of your imagination. The playful protoceratops sculptures arrived Monday.

They were paid for by the estate of a woman named Ann Alger, who wanted to leave the library money for a gift that would involve children and animals. The sculptor has pieces around Central New York, including the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Nottingham High School and the Cazenovia library.

Officials in Liverpool say they hope the dinosaurs will remind people the library is a fun place to visit.

"We're competing with the Internet and television and all these cool things out there in the malls and all of these attractions. And we don't want people to forget about the public library," said Jean Polly, Liverpool Public Library Director.

Soon, visitors will be able to sit on the dinosaurs.

The Liverpool Public Library’s summer hours are Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
