ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Time Warner Cable, Fleet Feet and Girls Incorporated team up to help local girls become healthier. A dozen girls from the "Healthy Mind, Healthy Body" summer program by Girls Inc. spent time at Fleet Feet Wednesday to learn about the science behind running and which foods fuel bodies the best. They are also learning from exercise and nutrition science experts.
Fleet Feet owners say the girls need to learn the proper form when running and the best footwear for the sport.
"It's important for us to get the message out that being healthy is part of living a strong lifestyle and helps you with your life overall," said Ellen Griffin, co-owner of Fleet Feet.
"We just want them to break the gender stereotype and to do that they have to take care of your body, your body will take care of you," said Roneka Robinson, Program Facilitator for Girls Inc.
YNN's parent company Time Warner Cable helped plan the event through its Connect a Million Minds Program. For more information on that program, visit connectamillionminds.com.
