BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- The United Way of Broome County wants people to start burning some calories. The group discussed their upcoming Day of Caring on September 7th, along with a new goal.
Organizers talked about the Let's Move Broome initiative at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City on Friday. They want to lower the area’s obesity rate by sharing fun ways to stay in shape.
Volunteers want to encourage people to take the steps needed to lose the weight and live a healthier life. They say even small changes can benefit people.
"The Day of Caring committee always comes up with a special initiative to launch the Day of Caring for that particular year. Let's Move Broome is geared to educating people and getting them on board for exercise and showing them how easy it is to exercise within your day. We'll go to businesses and organizations and perform demonstrations," said Ken Spink, United way Day of Caring Chairperson.
