FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Friday marked day six of the week long stay on Fort Drum for the Syracuse Football team and the players got to have a little bit more fun with a paintball tournament.

The players and coaches broke into teams of four for the battles. Players had to capture a football in the middle of the field and bring it back to their base without getting shot.

It was a chance for the players to let loose and have some fun, but still work on communication, teamwork and keeping the competitive spirit.

In the end, the coaches team won, with some help from the linebackers.

Running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley was named the tournament MVP.

"Like they say, you can't be MVP without a great supporting cast. Head Coach Marrone over there directing us as usual. Man down fire, but it was a great time, we had great fun," Wheatley said.

"No the coaches weren't supposed to win this thing, but I think the old reliable strategy of just sitting back and waiting actually paid off in droves, so they pulled it off in the end," said 1st Lt. Greg Durso of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

Of course, the players say it was a lot fun to be able to fire some shots back at the coaches for all the grief they've gotten all preseason.
