VOLNEY, N.Y. -- Four former members of the Volney Fire Department now face criminal charges for allegedly misusing funds.
Edward Weldin, 37, Roberta Weldin, 36, Wesley Loomis, 35, and Ronald Frawley, 34, all resigned from the department in February following an internal investigation. The results of that investigation were then turned over to State Police.
Edward Weldin, the former chief, has been charged with two counts of fourth degree grand larceny and one count of official misconduct and Roberta Weldin faces two counts of petit larceny. Investigators say they purchased nearly $2,000 worth of building materials for personal use, but charged them to the fire department.
Edward Weldin is also accused of exceeding his fuel allowance by more than $2,000 over a three year period.
Loomis and Frawley are both charged with one count each of third degree grand larceny and official misconduct. Police say Loomis exceeded his fuel allowance by about $4,500 over three years. Frawley is accused of taking more than $6,000 from the fire department over two years while serving as treasurer.
All four were arraigned and released on their own recognizance.
