JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- A group of educators from Burlington, Vermont are in Northern New York this weekend, showing off an exact replica of an 1862 Lake Champlain Canal Schooner.

The Lois McClure Outreach Program helps to not only share, but preserve history and underwater archeology of the Lake Champlain region. It's currently on a four month long, 40 community tour to discuss everything from the War of 1812 and the canal era that emerged from it, to local shipwrecks.

The ship was built in a way that it could fit through canals, lower its mast and hook up to horses or mules and deliver important goods to various communities

"Lumber, grain, coal, agricultural products, manufactured products of every description supporting the communities all throughout this region. We're here to remind people of that interesting story," said Art Cohn of the Lois McClure Outreach Program.

The ship will be open for tours this weekend in Sackets Harbor before moving to Oswego for Labor Day weekend. All tours are free.
