NEW YORK STATE FAIR -- While there is plenty of entertainment around the fair, it is also a great place to learn about organizations and resources in your community. 811 Dig Safely is using a hands-on method at their exhibit to educate the public about digging in New York.

They have a demonstration for fairgoers to show what happens when excavators dig without first being educated about the territory, which can be a very dangerous operation.

"From threat to life, communities to public safety, all the way to fines for not calling, because its the law. You're supposed to call before you dig a couple days in advance. We will process that location information to make sure you dig safe," explained Kevin Hopper, Dig Safe Operations Manager.
