Meeting on yogurt held at NYSF
Yogurt was the focus for some on Dairy Day. Leaders in the industry met for part of the morning to discuss how to continue to grow the industry. It's a follow up to the Governor's yogurt summit. YNN was invited into the meeting. Our Iris St. Meran has more on the ideas discussed.

NEW YORK STATE FAIR -- Day five of the New York State Fair highlighted dairy. In this room, industry leaders met with a focus on yogurt.
Darrel Aubertine, Agriculture and Markets Commissioner, said, "Yogurt is, I believe at this point anyway, one of the fastest growing sectors, the fastest growing products in the dairy industry at this point."
To keep it that way, Commissioner Aubertine is following up on the Governor's Yogurt Summit with this meeting. In the room were processors, producers and representatives from Cornell and Morrisville. This was more of an informational discussion to ask where does New York go from here.
Aubertine said, "Nothing is off the table. And the ideas that we've discussed have ranged from what can we do, cow comfort to new and innovation ideas as far as new products that may be coming online to. How do we deal with waste."
Comptroller Tom DiNapoli was also at the fair. He announced his report regarding agriculture. The report acknowledges yogurt's growth. It said product reach 553 million pounds last year, more than double the amount product in 2008.
DiNapoli said, "When you go to the store, you just see the variety of products now of Greek Style yogurt and New York taking advantage of that opportunity. There's great growth potential there."
With continued discussions, Aubertine says goals will be made and they will look for more collaborative opportunities within this niche market.
