NEW YORK STATE FAIR -- Fairgoers could quench their thirst with some of the best water in the state Thursday. The 26th annual New York State water drinking contest was held just inside the main gate.

The final round pitted Niskayuna in Albany County against Guilderland in Schenectady County. Niskayuna took home the win 56 to 51.

Organizers say the contest is a fun way to educate people about their drinking water.

"The reason we started doing this is to create some interest in peoples’ minds about their drinking water because people take it for granted. They turn the faucet on and there it is. So this way they can ask questions about their water," said Manoj Ajmera.
