Oneida man arrested after multi-county pursuit
MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. -- New details have been released following a two county police pursuit late Thursday night and early Friday morning.
The Madison County Sheriff's office says the suspect, Derik Churchill, 26, of Oneida, had just been served with an order of protection by family court earlier in the day. Just before 10 p.m. Thursday, investigators say Churchill showed up at the house of the protected party in the Town of Stockbridge and started sending threatening text messages. It was also reported Churchill may have had an automatic weapon and night vision equipment.
A police search and pursuit led them through six towns in Madison and Onondaga counties and forced the lockdown of SUNY Morrisville and Cazenovia College.
Police eventually found Churchill on the Cazenovia College campus around 1:30 a.m. Friday. He was not in possession of any weapons at the time.
Churchill has been charged with first degree criminal contempt and second degree aggravated harassment and additional charges are pending.
Churchill has since been released on bail.
