DEWITT, N.Y. -- Crews were able to make quick work of a fire at a building in DeWitt on Saturday morning. Firefighters were called to the former Beacon Federal Credit Union building on Old Collamer Road around 7:30 a.m.

Officials said there was a lot of cardboard in the building, and crews encountered heavy smoke and fire out of one window when they arrived. But, due to the quick response, they were able to keep the flamed confined to one room.

"We were already out on one alarm, which was just over the bridge, so like I said, the first engine was here within under a minute of dispatch. So we had a good response with a quick knockdown," explained Chief Bob Russell, East Syracuse Fire Department.

Investigators are now looking into what sparked the fire.
