NEW YORK STATE FAIR -- A new show at the State Fair aims to make history fun. At the Great Lakes Timber Show there are a number of demonstrations including ax throwing, cross cut sawing, and modified power sawing.

One of the popular sites of the show is log rolling. Fans can try it, but it's harder than it looks. It's a very visual show that gives visitors insight into the logging industry.

"Prior to 1926, before chainsaws were ever part of the logging industry, they used to cut hundreds of millions of board feed of timber by hand with cross cut saws, which we'll see here shortly," said Bruce Belanger, Great Lakes Timber Show. "They floated them down the river in the river drives. They actually had men ride logs to the saw mills. It was a regular daily job that got guys about a dollar a day."
