ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. – There was a peaceful end to a standoff in the Oneida County village of Prospect. State Police say a call came in around 4:30 p.m. Sunday from a home on Upper State Street.
A family member told police a 34-year-old woman was despondent. Troopers on scene were unsuccessful in making contact with the woman for nearly six hours.
They say she surrendered peacefully around 10:15 p.m. only after troopers set off a flash bang. The woman said she had been in her home sleeping when troopers were attempting to get her attention.
“It was obviously emotional distress and we were able to take her into custody and give her the medical attention she needs,” said Captain Coots, New York State Police.
No injuries were reported. Police are still investigating.
