SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Opening day of the Centro Transit Hub in downtown Syracuse was expected to see thousands of passengers and with them came just as many opinions about the new structure.

The $17 million hub was built as an alternative to the stops at the intersection of Fayette and Salina Streets.

Centro officials say people can now wait for rides sheltered from the weather and won't have to cross busy city streets to transfer buses.

Passengers say they have mixed opinions on the hub.

"I like it. You know, I like to see new things, but I really think they should've asked the public opinion before they built. You know, what would they like to see in a transit hub?" said Shakara Freeney of Syracuse.

"Where are the clocks to tell everybody? And the buses have no system at all that I can tell. Before at the four corners, we had the North Side, South Side, East Side, West Side. How does this make any sense?" asked passenger Kate Eckstadt.

Officials say there were a few kinks to work out on day one, but Centro staff was on hand to answer any questions from passengers.
