SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- State Education Commissioner Dr. John King rang in the new school year with Syracuse students. This comes a week after the State Education Department gave Syracuse a $2 million grant.
The Systemic Supports for District and School Turnaround Grant is for two years. It will help the district implement its newly released five-year strategic plan.
"I'm excited about the direction the district is headed. I think there's a lot of potential. But there's a lot of room for growth because obviously performance is an issue. I think the superintendent and the board are very committed to improving performance," said New York State Education Commissioner Dr. John King.
