SYRACUSE, N.Y. – ProLiteracy unveiled its new world headquarters in Syracuse's Near West Side neighborhood.

ProLiteracy is the oldest and largest membership organization in the U.S. dedicated to advancing the cause of adult literacy and basic education. The new location is in the renovated old Case Supply Warehouse on Marcellus Street. It will help expand the organization's reach, allowing them to pipe more educational programs throughout the world. They're leasing the space from the Near West Side Initiative.

"You know, we wanted to make a difference and join with WCNY and others helping to revitalize the west side of Syracuse, which has been a neglected neighborhood. So this is our contribution to Syracuse but it is also going to help our work we do across the country," said ProLiteracy President and CEO David Harvey.

The grand opening celebration will carry over into Saturday, which marks International ProLiteracy Day. There will be several events, including health and digital literacy sessions and a literacy fair.
