BRADFORD COUNTY, Pa. – It’s the one year anniversary of the flooding caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. In Athens business owners, officials and residents were out to show how well the recovery effort have gone.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting on Main Street was held to proclaim that business is open once again downtown.

Forty-one businesses in Athens were devastated by the flood and since then, 35 of them have recovered. Business leaders say it took months of hard work and a lot of volunteer hours rebuilding Athens but looking back it has strengthened the entire community.

"At one point, you feel so overwhelmed you don't know how you're going to get through the night. You don't know how you are going to remove that item to the curb and all of the sudden a stranger just shows up. You still think about that. And along with my neighbors and my business partners in the town, we've come closer because of this. We were already a close group, but we're even closer now," said Deanna Barrett, Athens Business Association President.

The ribbon cutting also kicked off the first Annual Street Fair aimed to show that Athens is now bigger and better than a year ago.
