MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man has died following a logging accident in Madison County.

Officials say they were called to a home on Route 20 around 11 a.m. Friday for a report of a man trapped under a tree. They say Matthew Stevens, 22, of Vernon, was logging with three other men when he attempted to pull down a tree with a tractor. The tree then fell on the tractor in which Stevens was sitting.

Stevens was pronounced dead at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.
