BREWERTON, N.Y. -- The 2012 edition of Parade of Homes officially open to the public on Saturday, but some were able to get a sneak peek on Friday night, while raising money for charity.

The annual kickoff party benefitted the Central New York Land Trust, which preserves natural areas in the community. The parade showcases eight homes designed and built by local companies. This year's event is being held in the Riverwalk development in Brewerton, and 100 acres next to the neighborhood was donated to the land trust.

Officials said it will eventually feature a one mile hiking trail, and they're hoping it will benefit their organization as much as its neighbors.

"Hopefully some of the people who buy homes here will become members and supporters of our organization because they're going to have this terrific resources in their backyard," said Jeff Devine, CNY Land Trust Executive Director.

The Central New York Land Trust has created 49 nature preserves over the last 40 years that are free and open to the public. For more information on the group visit CNYlandtrust.org.
