TULLY, N.Y. -- A hometown hero returns to Central New York to help save the program that gave him his start. Olympic runner Lopez Lomong helped host a fun run at Tully High School on Friday.
The event benefits the school's indoor track team, which had its funding cut due to budget constraints. Lomong, who recently ran in the Summer Olympics in London, said it's important for him to be able to help a new generation of athletes.
"I believe that every kid should have a chance, have a shot to just improve themselves and go forward, and eventually be an Olympian on the world stage," said Lomong. "So I really wanted to be part of this and give support to the program."
In addition to the run, Lomong also signed autographs, along with copies of this new book, "Running for my Life".
