BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Communities in Western New York were the first to feel the impact from the weather. In Buffalo, winds took the roof off of a building, and sent it crashing to the street below on Saturday morning. In other places, winds knocked bricks off buildings and limbs off trees. According to firefighters, nobody was hurt.

Just to the east in the town of Marilla, the winds threw debris across the neighborhood, and even overturned a large snowmobile trailer. Sheriff's Deputies said the damage could only be seen at about a dozen homes in the town. One homeowner said the storm scared her out of bed.

"All of a sudden the wind started blowing and it kept coming faster, and faster, and faster," remembered Mary Gilbert, homeowner. "Blew out our screens, and heard the trees falling, and everything happened within five minutes."

Town officials and the highway department are now assisting with the cleanup effort.
