BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. -- All of the rain and strong storms on Sunday didn't stop golfers from heading out to Onondaga County to support a good cause. The second annual Support Our Troops shoot out was held at the Timber Banks golf course in Baldwinsville.
It was all part of the nationwide Patriot Golf Day, raising money for the Folds of Honor Foundation. The group offers scholarships and other assistance to the spouses and children of soldiers killed or disabled in service to our country.
Organizers also honored Corporal Kyle Schneider, a local marine who was killed while serving overseas last year.
"For us, it was a no-brainer. It gives us an opportunity to give back to those who have given so much to all of us," said Perry Noun, Timber Banks Golf Club General Manager.
"There's over 80 golf courses in Central New York participating this year in Patriot Golf Day, and I for one am very proud that they're doing that," added Tony Biata, Patriot Golf Day Director.
According to organizers, the event raised more than $8,000 last year, and they are on track to double that amount this year.
