BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Raymond Serowik was one of several EMS responders from Broome County who traveled to ground zero ten days after the September 11 attacks

"It’s still very new and vivid to me. It’s like it happened just yesterday. The sites, the smells, the sounds of the WTC after that are something that are etched in my mind and won't be forgotten," said Serowik.

He, along with other local police, firefighters and first responders joined city and county officials Tuesday morning to mark the anniversary of the attacks.

"Many people have come here this morning because we all remember exactly where we were 11 years ago this morning when we were attacked," said Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan.

The ceremony included a 21 gun salute, a playing of taps and a song from the Seton Catholic Central Chorus. Officials also placed three wreaths at Binghamton's September 11th Memorial and observed a moment of silence. A blessing by the Binghamton Police Chaplin served as an important reminder to everyone present.

"We remember September 11, 2001, pray for all those affected by the terrible events of that day, especially those in Broome County and the surrounding areas, and we remember with love and respect all those who went tragically to their death, especially our brother and sister Firefighters and responders," said Binghamton Police Chaplin Rev. Laurence Lord.

Helping make sure that the lives lost and the sacrifices made 11 years ago are not forgotten.
