Man seen with missing woman found dead arrested on drug charges
STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- One of the last people to have seen a Hammondsport woman before she was found dead is now in police custody, facing drug charges.
The Steuben County Sheriff's office arrested Cory Haight, 35, of the Town of Campbell. He has been charged with five counts of criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument following a car crash in the Town of Bath on August 26th.
Deputies say Haight was one of the last people to have had contact with Melissa Sherry.
Deputies have not said what connection the two may have had with one another, but they are looking into Haight’s activity on the day leading up to Sherry being reported missing.
Sherry's autopsy report revealed that there was no trauma nor foul play and her death is still being treated as accidental.
Anyone who may have further information about her death or may know her what she was doing between August 24th and 31st is asked to contact the Steuben County Sheriff's office at (607) 622-3911 or visit www.steubencounty.org/Sheriff.
