CANASTOTA, N.Y. -- A fire at Queensboro Dairy in Canastota turned out to be much less serious than originally thought.

Firefighters arrived Thursday afternoon to find smoke pouring from the roof. They called for backup units, but by the time anyone arrived, the fire was already out. It turns out a ventilator motor on the roof had caught fire, causing minimal damage. Still, officials say it could have been much worse.

"I was actually here, probably twenty years ago, the other side of the structure, when they had another ventilator motor caught fire. Actually, we lost most of the roof on that structure. So the guys did a great job knocking it down. The other issue we were dealing with today was the heat," said Bob French, Madison county Deputy Fire Coordinator.

No one was injured.

The building will have to be inspected before work continues in that part of the building.
