BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- In the only democratic primary in Broome County, two former City Councilmen vied for a spot on their party's line for a legislative seat.
Tony Fiala, who was also the former chair of the Broome Democratic Committee and the son of former County Executive Barbara Fiala, was victorious over Bob Weslar. Fiala says he wants to focus on business development and also wants to closely examine natural gas drilling, an issue he says he still wants to learn more about before deciding whether or not to support it.
But the general election still lies ahead.
"What it means going forward is it's day one on Friday, there's a republican and we'll follow the same strategy, if we're successful, that we did for the primary," Fiala said.
Fiala also secured the Independence line and will face Republican Arthur Ospelt in November.
