SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Now that Centro has a new Transit Hub in downtown Syracuse, work is underway to take down the old Common Center. Crews began demolition at the site on Fayette and Saline Streets on Saturday morning.

The site used to serve as a bus transfer center until it was replaced by the new $17 million hub at Salina and Adams. The new hub relieves congestion downtown, while providing shelter to riders during inclement weather.

Meanwhile, city officials hope to turn the old location into a type of public space once demolition wraps up. The whole process is expected to take about three weeks.
