SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Homelessness is an issue that is receiving a lot of attention as the weather turns colder. The Rescue Mission is in the midst of a fundraising effort, and they thanked the community for its support with a block part in Syracuse on Saturday.
According to officials, they've been seeing a growing need all year long, serving an average of 750 meals per day, and sheltering as many as 150 people at a time.
"We're very concerned about the homeless that are still living on the street, under bridges or in encampments. We have teams that are mobile outreach teams to try to connect with those individuals, care for their basic needs through food, through clothing, through blankets," said Alan Thornton, Rescue Mission Executive Director.
The Rescue Mission has been serving Central New York for 125 years.
