Old Forge business owner dies in hospital after Thursday crash

By: YNN Staff

HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- An Inlet woman has succumbed to her injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident this week.

Kirsty Sutherland, 47, owner of Ozzie's Cafe in Old Forge, died late Friday night, a nursing supervisor at Upstate University Hospital said.

Sutherland was injured in the motorcycle crash on Route 28 near Hollywood Hills Road on Thursday. Police were called when a passerby noticed Sutherland in a nearby ditch after the motorcycle she was driving went off the road. Police say it appears she struck a log near a rock embankment.

She was taken by Old Forge Ambulance to Woodgate Fire Department, where she was sent by helicopter to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica. She was later transported to Syracuse's Upstate Hospital in critical condition.

Town of Webb Police believe Sutherland was on her way to work when the accident occurred.
