SALINA, N.Y. -- A Clay man has died after his bicycle collided with an SUV in the Town of Salina. It happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday on South Bay Road near the I- 81 overpass.

Sheriff's deputies say the SUV, driven by Vincent Paladino, 49, was traveling northbound when the bicyclist suddenly turned and collided with the vehicle. The bicyclist, Frederick Merchant, 19, of Clay, was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he later died of his injuries. Paladino was not hurt.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call deputies at (315) 425-2111.
